Posting events

Once you are ready to start teaching, you need to pick a time and post your class. Check the calendar to make sure it doesn’t clash with other classes. We do have the facilities to run more than one class at a time, but in general it is best not to have classes clash as the same students might want to go to both classes.

To let people know about your class, it is best to post it both on the calendar and in SL events.

To post an event on the calendar, use the prim rezzer (pink ball thingy bottom right of the calendar). You need your Mystic Academy tag on to use this, so go to edit, groups, select Mystic Academy and click on activate, if it isn’t already activated. If you click on the prim rezzer it will give you instructions on how to use it. Follow these instructions. Once you have your event prim in the right place, giving the time and name of your class, you need to put a notecard in it with a description of what your class is about. You can do this by dragging the notecard onto the event prim. Once you have done this, you are nearly finished and can lock the prim.

To post an event in SL events, click on the search button at the bottom of your screen go to events and do a search. You will then get an option to “add event”. Click on this button and you will be taken to the SL webpage to add an event (you can also do this directly via the webpage). Click on add event, agree to the terms and fill in all the details. The location is of course Mystic Academy, Immortal Woman He, which should appear under group locations.

Now the most important thing – tips! Each of our teaching areas has a tip jar for teachers along with the general Mystic Academy one. To use the tip jars you need to have your Mystic Academy Chatroom group tag on. If you are not a member of this group contact me, Jane Atkey. IM me direct or use the staff indicator, whether I am on- or offline. If you can’t get hold of me, you can speak to Arianna Eriksen or Dragon Shichiroji.

To assign a tip jar to yourself, once you have your Mystic Academy Chatroom group tag on, just right click the tip jar and choose touch. It’s that simple. It will now be assigned to you until someone reassigns it. Fifteen percent of tips go to the Academy to help keep us running. This is done automatically by the tip jar.

You can use text, voice or both in your classes – it is entirely up to you. If you want to include other media, we do have viewscreens which can display slides or videos. You can also use the parcel audio stream. If you need help with any of this then ask me or one of the other guides who are generally happy to be of service. I have sent round a notice about free teaching materials - let me know if you didn't get it and I will give you the landmark.
