COMMENTARY: Harassment of Furries, Psychological Discrimination, Closet Psychics

By Rodillon - Posted on 01 May 2008

I learned something disturbing last night. As some of you know, I'm new to Second Life. There's a lot about this place that I don't know. One of the things that amazed me is that there are "wars" going on around Second Life.

My friend Illyria Illyar who is a builder told me about Griefers who discriminate against Furries or people who wear fur. There is a group of people who dislike individuals who take on animal characteristics and use their programming skills on Second Life to disrupt the quality of life of Furries.

They do things like program hostile objects that are designed to create spam, slow down the system, and negatively affect the lives of people who choose a lifestyle that is tied to animal traits.

I find this horrible because I experience Psychological Discrimination. There are so many times I run across people who discriminate against people who believe in the Psychic Field or whatever Spiritual Beliefs they have.

You can sense it in people's demeanor when they talk to you and how their body language changes when you tell them that you work in the Psychic Field. It ranges from confusion to downright condescension.

So when I heard about people being discriminated against because they happen to like wearing costumes that simulate animals, I felt really sorry for them. I happen to have a Rabbit Avatar that I bought for L$300 that I like because I'm born Year of the Rabbit. It's symbolic.

For anyone who believes in Mother Nature, Mother Earth, or being one with animals, wildlife, and all living things on this planet we live on, that you would find this disturbing and show your support for Furries.

There is something that can be said about animals that retain the core basic instincts and where they lead simpler lives that humans tend to lose. Humans tend to complicate things or cause problems that would've been easily resolved by the Laws of Nature.

I am contributing some of my knowledge and aid in the Psychic Field to help the Furry Community. My expertise is with anything that has to do with numbers and that includes software.

Because my Psychic Abilities are designed for combat, I will be teaching Furries or anyone who is seeking ways to defend themselves how to move and shift numbers that will tilt things in their favor.

Personally, I think people who are discriminating against Furries should be appalled at their behavior trying to discriminate against another society when they take on a derogatory name such as the "N-Word" that is frowned upon by the African Community that has underwent discrimination.

While I cannot speak for Mystic Academy, I hope people at Mystic Academy will extend their support and aid to any Furries in need of help or seeking refuge from this form of discrimination.

Perhaps the common bond of Psychics being tormented and abused by others who don't believe in the Psychic Field will create empathy toward Furries who seek to live a life where they can express themselves in their own way without fear of being harassed.

Wouldn't it be nice to live in a world where you can express your own ideas without fear of discrimination. I know personally what it's like because I refer to me as a "Closet Psychic."

I don't share my lifestyle as a Psychic with my Family and Friends. I don't show them this because they're extremely religious and they would try to convert me over to other side and to "stop believing in such nonsense."

So to keep the peace and avoid family confrontation, I don't talk about it. My mom kind of knows because I've hinted to her about my lifestyle. However, she doesn't say anything. She leaves me be.

Notice that when I use the term Closet Psychic, it is similar to the plight of individuals who lead a Homosexual lifestyle. They hide because they fear they won't be accepted or know what the response would be of family and friends who are close to them. So they practice it in secret or live dual lives.

Just as you have Homosexuals who attempt to hide their orientation by dating someone of the opposite sex referred to as a "Beard," you can have Psychics who wear a "Psychological Beard" attempting to pass themselves off as regular people of society.

Over the last 3 years while I was researching the Psychic Field that reveal to me that they have Psychic Abilities, but they don't tell anyone. They keep it a secret so as not to complicate their lives.

That's why the movie "X-Men 3: Last Stand" about mutant rights directly pertains to Psychics as Mutants with special abilities. It is known that people fear individuals that are in possession of gifts that allow them to outperform others on a certain level.

It's unfortunate when people with such gifts are made to feel that their abilities are a curse or an illness rather than something that sets them apart from others. I do not claim that it makes Psychics better than other people. However, Psychics should have the right to live in peace and without fear.

The same goes for Furries. If people choose to be animals on Second Life, they should be free to express themselves the way that we as a Spiritual and Psychic Community should be allowed to express our own beliefs.
