Bodhi - Land of Buddhadharma

Bodhi - Land of Buddhadharma

Bodhi is a virtual island dedicated to the teachings of Buddha. Operated by a non-profit group comprised of real-life Buddhists from around the world, Bodhi is a public commons dedicated to exploring and cultivating Dharma for the benefit of all.

In Second Life, Bodhi is here:

The Bodhi blog can be found at:
http://www.BodhiSim.org

Please contribute ideas, comments and discussion at the Bodhi forum. We are especially keen to see new members, as well as proposals for Dharma events and new content:

Bodhi is supported entirely by donation. Yop can give via donation jars at Bodhi -- or contact Nate Maeterlinck to become a monthly donor. But remember, your greatest gift is your interest and your practice!

Although Bodhi is under ongoing construction, you are welcome to explore the sites, structures and texts found on the island. We ask that visitors to Bodhi treat each other and their surroundings with respect.

Please visit anytime. And let us know if you are a qualified Dharma teacher, lama, monk, geshe or roshi -- we are keen to add classes, events and content that reflect the richness and potential of Buddhadharma. We look forward to seeing you!

More about Bodhi

Welcome! Everything is free and public at Bodhi -- no commerce transpires here -- and we suggest that visitors maintain content and conduct appropriate to our sim's PG rating.

Visitors are welcome to donate to Bodhi, as our non-profit island is maintained exclusively on donation income. If you would like to support Bodhi, please donate $L to DharmaWheel Drinkwater or, if you'd like to become a monthly donor in USD$, please contact Tenzin Tuque.

As in RL, fidelity and respect to Dharma is paramount. It is inappropriate to role-play at Bodhi as a monk, lama or teacher -- or proffer teachings beyond what we're individually able to provide in good conscience as lay practitioners. For example: anything you're been authorized/trained to teach in RL is the obvious ethical limit within SL. Conversely, one behaves at a SL Buddhist temple as one would at a RL temple.

And as Buddhists, many of us observe the Five Training Precepts both in SL and RL (as translated from the original Pali):
1. "I undertake to train myself to abstain from taking the life of any living being."
2. "I undertake to train myself to abstain from taking that which is not given."
3. "I undertake to train myself to abstain from sensual misconduct."
4. "I undertake to train myself to abstain from unskilful speech."
5. "I undertake to train myself to abstain from taking substances that cause intoxication to the point of
heedlessness."

Or not -- your choice, your karma. Metta to all!

TAKING REFUGE
(Universal Form)
I take refuge in Wisdom
I take refuge in Compassion
I take refuge in Non-clinging Awareness
May I develop the six perfections
And awaken speedily for the sake of all living beings
(The six perfections are: generosity, wholesome relationship,
patience, energy, concentration and wisdom.)

SHARING THE MERIT
Through the power of these wholesome activities,
May my life be rich with awakening.
Living thus,
May I abandon all unwholesomeness.
Through the endless storm of birth, illness, old age and death,
May I help all beings to cross the ocean of the suffering of the worlds.
By these wholesome actions,
May the emotional confusions of myself and others be removed.

Idam te puñña kamma
fisavakkhayavaham hotu

May these wholesome activities produce happiness
and illumination for the uplifting of the world.

Sarva Mangalam
All is blessing.
